Adult Therapy in Kent

Sometimes something shifts, and you find yourself recognising that you need more than you have been giving yourself. Maybe you have been carrying something difficult for a long time, managing it, pushing through, and quietly wondering whether this is simply what life feels like. Maybe a particular period has left you more depleted than you expected. Maybe you are starting to understand yourself differently, and want the space to think about what that means.

Whatever has brought you here, you do not need to be in crisis to reach out. Therapy is not only for the most acute moments. It is for anyone who wants to understand themselves better, work through something that has become stuck, or find a way forward that feels more like themselves.

At Oasis Psychological Services, we offer individual therapy for adults across a wide range of difficulties, with appointments available in person at our clinic in Ashford, Kent, and online for those who prefer or need that option.

What Adults Come to Us For

People come to therapy for many different reasons, and there is no single presentation that fits. The adults we work with at Oasis include those who are navigating:

Anxiety, including social anxiety, health anxiety, generalised worry, and panic.

Burnout, whether from work, caregiving, or the sustained effort of managing a great deal over time.

Trauma and its effects on daily life, relationships, and sense of self.

Low self-esteem and self-criticism, including the particular kind that builds up over years of feeling not quite enough.

ADHD-related difficulties, including emotional dysregulation, executive functioning, procrastination, and the impact of a late diagnosis on identity and self-understanding.

Autism-related difficulties, including anxiety, sensory overwhelm, social exhaustion, masking, and burnout.

Difficulties with relationships, transitions, or significant life changes

If what you are carrying does not appear in that list, that does not mean we cannot help. If you are unsure whether therapy at Oasis would be the right fit, the best place to start is a conversation with us.

Our Approach

We draw on several evidence-based therapeutic approaches, and the way we work is always shaped by the individual in front of us rather than by a fixed script. Our clinical team has specialist training and experience across:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most thoroughly researched psychological therapies available. It works by exploring the connections between thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and behaviour, and helping you to notice and shift patterns that are keeping you stuck. It tends to be practical and structured, with a clear focus on the present, while also making room for understanding where patterns have come from.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) takes a different angle. Rather than focusing primarily on changing unhelpful thoughts, ACT helps you to relate to them differently, to observe them without being hijacked by them, and to move towards what genuinely matters to you even when your mind is pulling in other directions. For many people, particularly those with ADHD or autistic experiences, ACT offers a kind of psychological flexibility that feels both honest and useful.

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is particularly well suited to people who carry a strong inner critic, those who are often kind, patient, and understanding towards others, but find it very difficult to extend that same quality of response to themselves. CFT helps to loosen the grip of shame and self-blame, and to build a more grounded and self-compassionate relationship with your own difficulties. For many adults we see, especially those with a long history of unrecognised neurodivergence, this work can feel genuinely transformative.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a well-evidenced approach for trauma. It supports the brain in processing distressing memories and experiences that have become stuck, reducing their emotional charge and allowing them to be integrated into your story in a way that no longer feels overwhelming. Our team includes clinicians trained and experienced in delivering EMDR safely and effectively.

In practice, therapy at Oasis is rarely limited to a single approach. Our clinicians are trained across multiple modalities, and the work is always shaped around you.

Therapy for Neurodivergent Adults

We have particular expertise in working with autistic adults and adults with ADHD, including those who have been diagnosed later in life and are still making sense of what that means for their understanding of themselves.

Standard therapeutic approaches do not always translate straightforwardly to neurodivergent presentations. Anxiety in an autistic person may look and feel different from anxiety in a neurotypical one. ADHD shapes how people engage with therapy itself, including pacing, structure, and the way goals are set and held. Burnout, masking, and the particular kind of self-criticism that accumulates from years of not quite fitting can all require a different kind of attention.

Our team understands this. We adapt how we work to suit the person in front of us, and we aim to offer a therapeutic space that feels genuinely safe and genuinely useful, rather than one that requires you to fit a standard mould.

What to Expect

All therapy at Oasis begins with an initial consultation with one of our clinical psychologists. This gives us the chance to understand what has brought you here, what you are hoping for, and whether we are the right fit. We will be honest with you about what we think therapy can offer and how we would approach your particular situation.

If we go ahead, therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes and are held weekly, though this can be adapted depending on what works best for you. The number of sessions varies considerably depending on what you are working on. Some people benefit from a focused short-term piece of work. Others find that longer-term therapy gives them the depth and space they need.

We will always discuss the approach with you, including the pace and structure, and we will review how things are going regularly throughout.

In Person and Online

Our therapy clinic is based in Ashford, Kent. We are accessible from across Kent, including Folkestone, Canterbury, and the surrounding areas.

We also offer online therapy to adults across the UK. Online sessions are conducted via secure video link and offer exactly the same clinical quality as in-person work. For many people, online therapy also removes the practical barriers of travel and makes it easier to fit sessions into a working day.
